The mission: to be a leader in patient care and medical research utilizing diversity and unique assets while driving economic growth. That is the goal of the Illinois Medical District, and one we embrace at Scio at the Medical District.
We aim to live smarter, and that starts with being rooted in one of the largest medical districts in the country.
The Illinois Medical District includes almost 600 acres of medical research facilities, laboratories, a biotech incubator, two universities, raw development area and more than 40 healthcare related facilities.
And Scio is in the heart of it all, right across the street from the University of Illinois-Chicago campus.
“The Illinois Medical District—the largest medical district in the country—is transforming to meet the 21st century needs of the healthcare, life sciences, biotechnology and social service sectors that reside within our 560 acres,” said Warren Ribley, executive director, Illinois Medical District Commission, in a press release. “These diverse organizations are partnering to advance healthcare and life sciences innovation and improve patient care.”
Growth is the foundation for the future of the area, with exciting developments popping up left and right. One of the most prominent in the area is The Gateway, an exciting multi-use town center development expected to open this summer.
The 10-acre project will bring a range of amenities and facilities to Chicago’s greater West Side, including 1.26 million square feet of mixed-use real estate.
A public space including gardens, parks, and outdoor seating will also be included at the site, which is at the intersection of Damen and Harrison.
As those projects are completed, we anticipate the completion of the remainder of our renovations at Scio.
Our new amenity space opened earlier this year, and soon our outdoor space with a pool, grilling stations, and a resort-style deck with fire pits will open just in time for summer.
At Scio, we live smarter, and that starts with being rooted in one of the largest medical districts in the country.
