Twinkle lights, and ice rinks and helicopters, oh my! Chicago is buzzing with all kinds of festive fun for all ages throughout the month of December.
Traditions abound for many Chicagoans, many of whom have calendars filled to the brim with true Chicago-style Christmas activities. There’s the Christmas Tree and Ice Skating at Millennium Park, the Christkindl Market Chicago and, of course, a visit to The Bean is in order.
There are also quite a few truly unique things to add to your Holiday Bucket List in Chicago this season. That’s why we thought it might be fun to learn more about some of the holiday roads less traveled.
Here are a few of the most unique ways to get in the holiday spirit in Chicago:
Grab a slice under the lights: Most people know Homeslice Wheel House is a great place to grab your favorite slice of delicious pizza. But at the holidays it’s really something special. Holiday lights decorate the restaurant, which would be a great place to stop before visiting the ZooLights at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Explore the city from new heights: Book a helicopter ride around the city to experience Chicago’s holiday cheer from the sky. The Chicago Helicopter Experience offers patrons a ride on one of their state-of-the-art helicopters from its heliport eight minutes from the Loop. Patrons have the unique opportunity to ride day or night, with night flights offering some breathtaking views of holiday lights throughout the city.
Let out your inner child: There is something for everyone to enjoy at the Fifth Third Bank Winter WonderFest, which runs through Jan. 6. Now in its 18th year, the festival features an indoor winter playground packed with 170,000 square feet of rides, giant slides and an ice skating rink. Individual tickets start at $10 for seniors 65 and older or children under 42 inches, and are $20 for adults.
